We provided some examples for Reading part I & 2 in our last post. Here are the answers.

HSK 1 reading includes four parts, each of which has five questions.

Question Type

Questions 31—35 are matching questions. 

Five questions and five answers are given. You are required to find the corresponding answer for each question. Basic topics in oral Chinese conversations are included. 

 

Answering Skills

1. Pay attention to the key words and the core of the questions. Note the aspect that the question is being asked about.

2. Be familiar with common question words and sentence structures in Chinese, such as “谁(shéi) who”,“哪儿(nǎr)where”,“什么(shénme)what”,“什么时候(shénmeshíhou)when”and“怎么样(zěnmeyàng)how”.

④ Reading Part IV

 

Question Type

Questions 36— 40 are blank filling. 

For each question, a sentence or a conversation is provided, with a blank in it. You are required to choose a proper word from the five given ones to fill in the blank. The questions are designed to examine whether the students can understand the meanings and usages of the basic and frequently used Chinese words. It covers common topics in daily Chinese conversation.

 

Answering Skills

Understand the meaning of the whole sentence, and determine the appropriate word according to the meaning and context. After selecting the word, put it in the sentence and read the sentence again. If it fits the original sentence, it is the correct answer.

Pay attention to the grammatical functions of the words and get clear in your mind where the words should be put in the sentences to make them grammatically correct. Examine whether they collocate well with other words in the sentences.

Tips for HSK 1 Listening and Reading

In general, the HSK Level 1 exam is not very difficult. As long as you have diligently completed the corresponding level of study, passing the exam should not be a problem. The listening and reading sections of the test have distinct characteristics. In light of these differences, I have summarized the following tips for each section:
