On February 4th, 2022, the 24th Winter Olympic Games was held in Beijing. In order to meet the needs of the athletes and officials to have a better understanding of Chinese culture and to feel the spirits of Beijing Winter Olympics, Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) gave 1200 copies of Communicative Chinese Pocket Book for Beijing Winter Olympics as a gift to all Olympic delegations.
Representatives of the delegations, who received the Pocket Book, said that the book had become their "Chinese teacher" by the side, which not only helped them solve language barriers during the competition, but also enabled them to master the daily expressions in Chinese intensively.
The Pocket Book is published by Beijing Language and Culture University Press. It takes the form of colored pocket book and is mainly designed for Chinese learners starting from initial stage. It is also annotated both with English and French. The book covers 12 interactive topics, including greeting and inquiry, date and time, accommodation and services, transportation and travel, language, weather, diet, trip, entertainment and shopping, watching games and discussion, health and preservation, and emergency and help seeking. In order to better satisfy the communication needs of the delegations and relative staffs, the Pocket Book also includes introductions of the mascots, emblems, venues and events of Beijing Winter Olympic Games 2022.
