On New Year’s Eve, the 2025 CCTV Spring Festival Gala captivated audiences worldwide. Students from Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) took center stage, performing the lively song-and-dance program "Together China Fun" alongside stars Li Yuchun and Yi Yangqianxi. The act dazzled with its upbeat rhythm, interactive dance elements, and cutting-edge 3D stage effects, earning widespread praise from viewers and netizens alike.
Thirty-six international students from BLCU showcased their talents and passion, infusing the performance with global flair and multicultural charm. Their vibrant energy and artistic expression left a lasting impression. A creative highlight came during the lyrics "People here cherish peace; this land boasts splendid scenery," where the students made a symbolic appearance, aligning perfectly with the program’s theme of global unity and shared aspirations for peace and development. Yu Lei, the gala’s chief director, praised the students for their quick learning abilities, adaptability, and infectious enthusiasm.
President Duan Peng visited rehearsals to encourage participants, commending their dedication and urging them to embody BLCU’s youthful spirit on the global stage. Motivated by his words, students and faculty intensified their preparations, with some rehearsing through illness and others postponing family reunions abroad to prioritize the performance. Their commitment exemplified resilience and teamwork.
The international performers hailed from 23 countries across five continents, including Australia, Poland, Turkey, Italy, Cuba, Mexico, Egypt, and Cambodia. Among them were doctoral candidates in Sinology, graduate students specializing in international Chinese education, and undergraduates in translation studies. After four rounds of auditions and three full rehearsals, they secured their spots on the gala. For many, this was not only a unique cultural and linguistic experience but also a deeper immersion into the traditions of Chinese New Year and the values of family and national unity.
BLCU’s leadership prioritized the event, with the International Education Administration Office coordinating efforts across departments such as the Publicity Office, International Student Office, and School of International Chinese Language and Culture. This collaboration ensured a seamless debut for BLCU students on the first Spring Festival Gala following China’s successful intangible cultural heritage bid. Their performance celebrated both Chinese New Year customs and a shared global vision, reinforcing the gala’s role as a bridge for cross-cultural dialogue and mutual understanding among civilizations.
