As Chinese teacher working online, the worst news for me is internet is down.Let's learn some Chinese words about this topic today.

Internet in Chinese is 互联网(hùliánwǎng). But no one use the full name. We'll just say 网(wǎng), which originally means a net. The Chinese character 网(wǎng) is very easy to recognize because it looks like a net. And everybody use WIFI now. WIFI in Chinese you can just say in English or in Chinese is 无线网(wúxiànwǎng). 无线(wúxiàn) is wireless. But 无线网(wúxiànwǎng) is a bit long, so we usually just say wifi or 网(wǎng).

My internet is down. My WIFI is down. In Chinese is 我(wǒ)的(de)网(wǎng)断(duàn)了(le)。断(duàn) means to break off, to cut off. And to access to the internet is 连(lián). 我(wǒ)连(lián)上(shang)网(wǎng)了(le). I am connected to the internet. As a Chinese teacher online, I don't want to hear this second from my student. 我(wǒ)的(de)网(wǎng)断(duàn)了(le)。You need to 连(lián)上(shang)网(wǎng)学习(xuéxí)中文(zhōngwén)。Connect to the internet to learn Chinese.

When you check into a hotel in China, you may need to use their WiFi. You can ask, 你们(nǐmen)有(yǒu)WIFI吗(ma)? do you have WiFi?  WIFI 密码(mìmǎ)是(shì)什么(shénme)? What is the WiFi password? 我(wǒ)可以(kěyǐ)连(lián)你们(nǐmen)的(de)WIFI吗(ma)？Can I connect to your WiFi?

The WIFI in hotels is sometimes not very stable. Not very stable in Chinese you can say 我(wǒ)的(de)网(wǎng)不(bú)太(tài)稳定(wěndìng). 稳定(wěndìng) is stable. 如果(rúguǒ)你(nǐ)的(de)网(wǎng)不(bú)太(tài)稳定(wěndìng), you may have those problems.

断断续续(duànduànxùxù) on and off

网(wǎng)很(hěn)卡(kǎ). The network is choppy.

声音(shēngyīn)有(yǒu)延时(yánshí)。 Sound has a delay.

视频(shìpín)卡(kǎ)了(le)。Video is frozen.

And you may need to use your phone's data to access the internet. Your phone's data in Chinese you can say 手机(shǒujī)流量(liúliàng)

我(wǒ)家(jiā)断网(duànwǎng)了(le)，我(wǒ)现在(xiànzài)用(yòng)手机(shǒujī)流量(liúliàng)上课(shàngkè)。

My house's WIFI is down, and I am currently using mobile data for class.

Or you can just say, 我(wǒ)用(yòng)手机(shǒujī)5G上网(shàngwǎng). I use my mobile phone 5G internet access.

When I travel, if I need to use my laptop to access the internet, I also connect to my phone's hotspot.The hotspot in Chinese is 热点(rèdiǎn). 

我(wǒ)用(yòng)笔记本(bǐjìběn)连(lián)手机(shǒujī)热点(rèdiǎn)上网(shàngwǎng)。I use my laptop to connect to my phone hotspot and access the internet.
