The HSK 3 listening section includes 4 parts, each with 10 questions, and each question is played twice during the exam.
In this section, each question is based on a short dialogue between two speakers. The task is to choose the picture (out of five options) that best matches what you hear.
Strategy Tips:
Preview the pictures to identify key information like characters, activities, locations, objects, and colors.
When listening to the recording, find out the keywords such as verbs and especially nouns because they may be the right answers.
Example:
In Part 2, you will hear a short sentence or passage and must decide whether a given statement is true or false based on the audio.
Strategy Tips:
Carefully read the statement before listening.
Pay special attention to logical connectors and key grammar words such as:
虽然 (although), 但是 (but), 为了 (in order to), 因为 (because), 所以 (so), 也 (also), 而且 (and also).
These connecting words often indicate cause-effect or contrast relationships that can help determine the correct answer.
Example:
Both parts involve listening to dialogues and choosing the correct answer to a follow-up question.
You will hear brief conversations, and a third voice will ask a question about it.
Read the options in advance to anticipate the topic.
Listen for specific details like time, place, or activity.
Jot down key information such as names, locations, and actions if needed.
Example
These are slightly longer dialogues, usually 4–5 sentences.
The questions often focus on the second and last sentences, so pay close attention to those.
Understand the speaker's intentions, suggestions, or attitudes.
