It's November 11th the next coming Monday. The 11th day of the 11th month in a year, in Chinese we also call it 双十一(Shuāng Shíyī), Double 11, which used to be the Singles Day 光棍节(Guānggùn Jié) before. This festival originally celebrated singlehood, as the number “1” resembles a bare stick 光棍(guānggùn) and symbolizes being single in China. But probably no one in China remember the original meaning for this day now. It is the biggest shopping day which initiated by Alibaba since 2009 and adopted by other e-commerce platforms and retailers. It's kind of like the Chinese version Black Friday.
On Double 11, e-commerce 电商(diànshāng) platforms like Taobao, JD.com, and Pinduoduo, offer steep discounts 折扣(zhékòu) and coupons 优惠券(yōuhuì quàn), attracting countless consumers. In recent years, livestreaming 直播(zhíbò) has also become popular, where influencers showcase products in real-time, adding excitement and interaction to the shopping experience.
What's on your Double 11 wish list? Enjoy your online shopping 网购(wǎnggòu) carnival this year!
