In China, we use different social media platforms and instant messaging tools. But the common emojis we use are the same. How to say the names of some common emojis in Chinese? Listen to our podcast today:

Emoji in Chinese is 表情包(biǎoqíngbāo) .

First common 表情包(biǎoqíngbāo) is Thumbs up,点赞(diǎnzàn) or 赞(zàn). 点赞(diǎnzàn) is a verb. 点(diǎn) means to click, 赞(zàn)is the thumbs up emoji.

如果(rúguǒ)你(nǐ)喜欢(xǐhuan)这(zhè)期(qī)节目(jiémù)就(jiù)给(gěi)我(wǒ)点(diǎn)个(gè)赞(zàn)吧(ba)!

If you like this episode, please give me a thumbs up!

And to the opposite, thumbs down, in Chinese is 踩(cǎi). The original meaning of 踩(cǎi) was to step on it. We use 踩(cǎi) online to indicate that we do not support it, because after you click on the 踩(cǎi) or thumbs down button, the ranking of this post will decrease, as if you have really been stepped on it.

On social media, besides 点赞(diǎnzàn) thumbs up, the heart is also frequently used. A heart is 心(xīn), and to give a heart or the finger heart emoji in Chinese is 比心(bǐxīn) . And the heart broken emoji in Chinese you can say 心碎(xīnsuì).

Mark send me a heart broken emoji after his HSK test. I know he definitely didn't do well in the exam.

A smiley face is also very common. In Chinese we just call it 笑脸(xiàoliǎn).

I love to use the face with tears of joy, in Chinese is 笑哭(xiàokū)

Facepalm is commonly used here too, which is 捂脸(wǔliǎn)

Which emoji do you often use? Leave a message or just an emoji!

I hope you can give my post a 赞(zàn) not 踩(cǎi)!
